A Municipality Council Commission has approved today the design project of the Khan Krum monument, that is going to be erected in the Trakia Housing Area.

“ I truly hope to have expressed the great ruler as close to the image people have of him as possible”, Nikolay Savov, the author of the sculpture, said.

Khan Krum’s monument will be a figure on a horse – the ruler’s body alone will be 3.20 m tall. The total height of the composition is 5.5 m and together with the pedestal and the stairs leading to the monument it will surpass 10 m. The monument will be cast out of 3 tons of bronze, donated by the KZM Plant - Plovdiv (Non-Ferrous Metals Smelter).

Kan Krum was one of the greatest rulers of Bulgaria. In power from 803 to 814 A.D., Khan Krum made indelible mark on Bulgarian history. He was an energetic, courageous and steadfast ruler, ruthless when necessary, keenly pursuing the expansion of his state.
