The author of Sofia's coat of arms, the artist Haralampi Tachev was born in Plovdiv (July 19, 1875).
He was the first BG artist-decorator.
He graduated the State Art School in Sofia (today's National Art Academy) in Ivan Mrkvicka's class.
He was author of landscapes, illustrations for newspapers and calendars; designs of bank notes, post stamps and diplomas. He was assigned to decorate the BG Pavilions of altogether nine international fairs (Liege, 1905; Milan, 1907; London; etc), as well as the decoration of the Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia; the mausoleum of Alexander batenberg; the Vrana Palace; the mosaics of the Sofia mineral baths; the glass murals of the Cyril and Methodius Natinal Library in Sofia; the Sveta Marina church in Plovdiv, and many more...
