General Motors Looks for Bulgarian Suppliers

General Motors Looks for Bulgarian Suppliers

The company wants cheap produce of high quality

Seventeen Bulgarian firms can become partners with General Motors and supply car parts for the American company. In the next couple of months the Bulgarian candidates will send their produce for testing. "If the produce meets GM's standards of quality, price and delivery time, a deal can be struck within a week," said Eric Alstrom, Vice-President of GM - Supply Chain.

The company looks for cheap produce of high-quality in Bulgaria, say firms. "Price of labor in India and China is gradually growing, but this is not the only reason why GM looks to shift production to other countries," Alstrom said further.

The company studies the Bulgarian market because the growth of car sales in Central and Eastern Europe is higher than in Western Europe. In addition, the company will lower its expenses through the supply of cheap Bulgarian-made parts. General Motors has already studied the possibilities for investment in China, Russia, Romania and in North American and African countries.

"Bulgaria can become the production center of the automobile giant for South-East Europe and the Balkans," said Lachezar Borisov, Bulgaria's Deputy Economy and Energy Minister for the Standart Daily.
