Knjaz Alexander Bogoridi - man of law, statesman. Son of probably the most influential person after the Sultan in the Ottoman Empire - Knjaz Stefan Bogoridi (called Stefanaki Bey). Alexander Bogoridi studied in the Great School of the Nation (I Megali tou Genous Sxoli) in Constantinople, and in France.

He got his higher education in State Law in Germany. He had high-ranking positions as a statesman and a diplomat of the Ottoman Empire.

With the protection of the Russian Emperor Alexander II and with the consent of the Great Powers, Alexander Bogoridi was appointed General Governor of East Roumelia (a position he held for five years 1879-84) on March 13, 1879. During his governorship,the Bulgarian spirit of the region was significantly strengthened. He was connected to the Liberal Party leaders expelled from the Principality of Bulgaria - Petko R. Slaveykov and Petko Karavelov. Bogoridi followed a pro-British foreign policy orientation.

After Knjaz Alexander I Batembergs abdication from the throne, Alexander Bogoridi was one of the candidates for the Bulgarian throne.
