The Snezhanka Cave is located in the Batak region of the West Rhodope Mountains - situated some 5 km southwest of the town of Peshtera. It is difficult to access but incredibly beautiful, with its icy formations. There are relics of real cavemen’s fireplaces inside the cave. The Snezhanka Cave is relatively small in size but it features a large variety of stalactites and stalagmites and drapery-like formations. The cave’s name derives from the female figure, which was naturally formed in there. The Snezhanka Cave is open for visitors at any time of the year.It has several halls – in the so-called “Big Hall”, as well as in the hall called “The Dwelling”, hand-made pottery was found (made without using a potter’s wheel), dated from the times of the ancient Thracians – a Thracian tribe is believed to have hidden inside that cave. The bold fantasy of the nature has created the so-called “Magic Hall”, with the delicate statue-like figure of Snow White inside. The cave is called after that figure - The Snezhanka Cave (i.e. The Snow White Cave).
