The world consumer movement has long recognised that energy is of fundamental importance to public welfare and the well being of consumers worldwide. The satisfaction of basic needs is, after all, one of the basic rights of consumers. Yet, to date, we have failed to come up with a solution for the near two billion consumers with no access at all to electricity. At the same time, the provision of energy, unsustainable consumption and its impact on the future of the planet is one of the biggest challenges facing us all.
Consumers International and its members around the world will be lobbying national governments and G8 ministers in the run up to 15 March, to get recent declarations about the future of energy turned into action. We are calling on governments to step up their efforts to work together with consumers to develop comprehensive sustainable energy plans which remain within the limits of consumer affordability - sustainable access.
15 March will be a global campaign day on energy with CI members organising a multitude of different activities. Please get involved and make your voice heard on this important issue!
