The festival is a mutual project with the International Institute of Mediterranean Theatre ? Madrid, and has been annually held since 1997. Stefan Danailov, the current Culture Minister, is its artistic director. Several stages in Plovdiv annually host the latest performances of leading foreign and BG theatres.
This year, the festival is going to take place September 10th-23rd. The twenty-five performances on this year?s schedule of the festival include performances of Russian, Serbian, Romanian, Macedonian and Bulgarian theatres (BG participates with theatre groups from Rousse, Pleven, Varna, Pazardzhik and Sofia).
