Bulgaria’s Belogradchik rocks lead new 7 wonders ranking

2/16/2009 12:00:09 PM

The Belogradchik rocks in Northwestern Bulgaria has taken the lead in a global online survey that will pick the new seven wonders on the planet, overtaking Serbia’s Devil's Town and the world famous Grand Canyon in the United States. The announcement was made by the mayor of Belogradchik Emil Tsankov. The mayor expressed his conviction that the excellent results came thanks to the massive campaigns in the local media. The Bulgarian National Radio, the Bulgarian News Agency and the Bulgarian National TV channel are media partners of the campaign. The online voting will wrap up on July 7 when out of all 260 sites vying for the prestigious title only 77 will be selected in all seven categories. A jury of experts will narrow the choice further down to 21, out of which the new seven wonders on the planet will be picked. The winners in the campaign will become known in 2011.
