New edition of Bulgaria’s Red Book on the Internet

A new edition of the red Book of Bulgaria will come out in the Internet within a month’s time, said for the BTA Vulko Bisserkov, director of the Central Laboratory on General Ecology with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences /BAS/. The new edition contains information on the extinct and disappearing and threatened with extinction habitats, mushrooms, vegetal and animal species. The paper edition of the publication will be ready not earlier than 2012. Bulgaria is among the first countries in Europe to have published a National Red Book in relation to the preservation of biological diversity on their territory. The BAS issued the first Red Book of the Republic of Bulgaria in two volumes – Plants (1984) and Animals (1985).
