Tezcan Naimova with the gold medal
The Bulgarian athlete Tezcan Naimova won the European title at the 60 meter indoor sprint event in Goteborg (Sweden). This was the first medal for Naimova from such a significant tournament. Naimova who became a World teenage champion in 2006 at the 100 meter sprint event discipline achieved a personal best of 7.10 seconds. The Ukrainian athlete Mariya Riemien placed second, followed by Myriam Soumare form France who stopped the clock at 7.11 seconds, thus winning the bronze medal. The other Bulgarian athlete Ivet Lalova also qualified for the final where she placed 4th with 7.12 seconds. The last Bulgarian athlete who won the gold medal at the 60 meter indoor contest was Sofka Popova who achieved this success back in 1980.
