Barroso presents new energy strategy concerning Bulgaria



Energy security would be the accent of the starting European Council sitting in Brussels. On the eve of the form EC President Jose Manuel Barroso launched a new strategic project for Central and East Europe, of which Bulgaria is part. The aim is to connect the energy infrastructure of the countries spreading between the Baltic, the Black and the Adriatic seas. The new initiative is entitled Corridor North-South and it is to play a key role in strengthening the strategic energy infrastructure of the entire EU, Barroso maintains. He discussed the suggestion with the leaders of the countries directly concerned, namely Bulgaria, Romania, Poland the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. Expected results are: higher energy independence, more secure supplies and a more stable economic perspective for all countries of Central and East Europe. The European leaders would also consider today innovations as a necessary prerequisite for growth and competitiveness. The topic of the sitting, which Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov would also attend, would also discuss the situation in Egypt.
