Orthodox Christians mark Toma’s Sunday
On Monday, the first day after Easter, orthodox Christians mark Toma’s Sunday which puts an end to Easter celebrations. After Christ’s body disappeared, the rumors spread quickly and Apostle Toma did not believe them. On the eight day of his resurrection, Christ appeared to him and convinced him of the truth. Hence the expression “unbelieving Toma” and the name of the day – Toma’s Day. The week following Easter used to be called Empty because of the ban on any kind of work.
