Herminegild / Hermin Skorpil (also known as Schkorpil; pronounced Sh-korpil) was Czech by origin. Teacher, archaeologist; museum founder. Spent some time as a teacher in several high schools in Plovdiv.

He was author of research studies of dozens of caves in Bulgaria, summary of the mineral treasures, as well as a reaserch of meteorites found on the territory of our country.

The book of the two Skorpil brothers, Herminegild (Hermin) and Karel Skorpil , called Burial mounds, published at the end of 19th century, still serves as an archeological bible for contemporary specialists, containing valuable information for the numerous burial mounds all around the territory of Bulgaria.

Hermin Skorpil conducted parallel studies of the Rhodope Mountains history, archaeology, flora and fauna. Among his early publication was the study of The Plovdiv Flora (1897). Until 1900 there used to be many research studies of BG caves published, but the most imposing and valuable ones are those of the Schkorpil brothers, done at the end of the 19th century.

Hermin Skorpil also published a summary of the mineral treasures of Bulgaria - a pioneer research that serves as the basis for scientific mineralogy studies in Bulgaria. Also very valuable are his studies of meteorites found on the territory of our country.

He died in 1923, and was buried in Janavara (the Varna region), an archaeological site which features an early-Christian complex with a fifth-century church.
