The Ivan Vazov National Library

On the average 1000 readers from all age groups visit every day the ten specialised readingrooms and the eight free access areas with literature from  all fieds of human knowledge. The library owns about 1 350 000 units of conventional and non-conventional carriers of information and maintains an exchange programme with more than 60 libraries in 15 countries around the world.

The library owns a collection of manuscripts, rare and unique Bulgarian and European editions, incunabula, prints, lithographs and engravings from the 19th century, a collection of portraits, archives and the Bulgarian Renaissance Letters stock .


The Library is a member of the following International Library organizations:

- Banque Internationaled information sur les Estas Francophones (BIEF),
- UNESCO Network of associated libraries (UNAL),
- The Depository Library Programme of the World Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
