Today is the day of St. Kliment, archibishop of Ohrid

On November 25th each year, Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors St. Kliment, Archbishop of Ohrid, one of the First Teachers of Bulgarian language and literacy. He was an eminent archbishop, teacher and man of letters, one the most eminent disciples of the Holy Bothers Cyril and Methodius.

He was the founder of the Ohrid Literary School. His literary work was eminent in both its amount and significance. He is believed to be the author of 75 didactic and praising papers and two detailed life-stories of Cyril and Methodius. He was also among the initiators and participants in the creation of the Cyrilic alphabet as a simplified version of the Glagolitsa alphabet. St. Kliment's works have acquired large popularity in all of the Slavonic nations.

The oldest and most respectful Bulgarian university, opened after the Bulgarian liberation from the Turkish oppression - the Sofia University, is named after that eminent scholar.
