На днешния ден, 08.09., през 1885 година в Търново княз Александър І Батенберг издава манифест за признаване на Съединението.

Съединението на Източна Румелия с Княжество България е извършено на 6 септември 1885 г. Веднага след неговото провъзгласяване е сформирано Временно правителство начело с д-р Г. Странски, което поема управлението на Източна Румелия до пристигането на княз Александър I Батенберг. След съставянето си, Временното правителство обявява военно положение в Областта и издава заповед за мобилизиране на мъжкото население, годно да носи оръжие.

Заедно с това то отправя и покана до княз Александър I Батенберг да поеме управлението на обединена България. Временното правителство просъществува до 9 септември 1885 г., когато в Пловдив пристига князът и възлага функциите му на Комисарство на Южна България.
