Bulgarian President, Georgi Purvanov, awarded 10 eminent figures of culture, science and arts with the Stara Planina order for this yearss celebrations of the Day of Bulgarian Culture and Education, May 24th.
Stara Planina order, Ist rank, was handed to:
- Ivan Yuchnovski, Academician, Organic Chemistry Expert, Director of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences;
- Radoy Popivanov, Academician, Genetic Biology expert; former Health Minister.
- Milen Tsaneva, Professor of Literature.
- Georgi Kostov, Professor of Music, Composer, Head of the State Music Conservatory Pancho Vladigerov.
- Doncho Tsonchev, eminent writer.
- Tatyana Lolova, eminent actress.
- Katya Zehireva, eminent actress.
- Itskah Finzi, eminent actor.
- Stefan Mikhaylov, Medical Professor, toxicology and ecology expert.
Stara Planina order, IInd rank, was handed to:
- Katya Dineva, eminent actress.
The President had a speech on the contribution od each of the awarded figures. With a gratefulness for his active civic attitude, the president addressed Acad. Yuchnovski, Director of the BAS. The President breached the protocol, by approaching himself the elderly actress Katya Zehireva, which moved with great difficulty.
Part of the Presidents speech: Ever since the Cyril and Methodius spring of knowlege has that water of knowledge been giving life to the deep roots of our cultural tradition, which has been the basis of a new development of Bulgarian spirituality.
The writer Doncho Tsonchev addressed the audience on the behalf of all the 10 awarded: Our national duty remains even harded after that special award.
MAY 24th is the formal day of celebrating the Slav literacy, Bulgarian education and culture. It is a tradition eminent Bulgarians to be awarded for the Day of Culture for their special contribution to the development of culture and sciences in our country. The President thanked the awarded for the efforts all the figures of culture and science did for preservation of Bulgarian spirit throughout the centuries.
